The field of terrorism studies has long been (perceived as?) dominated by North American and to a lesser extent United Kingdom based researchers. While this has changed over the last decade with the rise to prominence of a number of other nationalities; French (Gilles Kepel and Olivier Roy), Norwegian (Thomas Hegghammer and Brynjar Lia), Italian (Donna Della Porta) and Spanish (Fernando Rienares). French researchers in particular, and aside from Kepel and Roy, have produced a body of work that merits attention. Some of these researchers have a wider interests than terrorism and political violence but their work in this area is excellent and deserving of closer examination.
